Gary Byerly and I were back in Barberton for a couple of weeks earlier in July and took a day to drive the GeoTrail. We were incredibly impressed with both the geologic and aesthetic aspects of the Geotrail. The sites were superbly chosen and the layout at each stop was stunning. The explanations were clear and illustrations terrific and not to forget the amazing view at each was breath taking.

The reason that this area is of such scientific value is that the Barberton Mountain Land has a very special place and role in the history and evolution of our planet Earth. As a geologist who has been carrying out scientific research in the Barberton region for the past 43 years, I can assure you that the importance of the area is not merely of local or national interest but of international significance.
